'Tis The Season For Turkey Chili!

So, it's getting pretty darn cold in Boston. We're almost into November thus it's the perfect time to make turkey chili. Plus, the last time I made this was for my friend's super bowl party last year. Chili is just so fun to make and you just can't go wrong with the spices either. In this pot, I added bay leaves, 1 tsp paprika, 1 tsp cayenne pepper, 1/2 tsp cumin, 1/2 tsp whole peppercorns, 1/2 tsp caraway seeds, and 1/2 tsp marjoram. You can feel free to play with other spices as well - trust me, it will be pretty hard to screw up chili.

I had to pick some stuff at Trader Joe's... did you know that you can return anything at Trader Joe's as long as it was not what you expected or simply, you just don't like it. The other ingredients I had at home. I used black beans in this recipe instead of kidney beans but feel free to use either or both. Make sure you rinse your beans.

Some carrots, onions, and [insert name] peppers

In a large pot, add about 1 T of canola oil and 1 tsp of sugar then turn to low-medium heat. Once it is nice and hot, add your diced onions to the pot. I hope this photo is self explanatory as to the easiest method of dicing onions.

Stir well and allow to brown.

Then add about 3/4 lb of ground turkey, paprika, cayenne pepper, cumin, and peppercorns. Stir well and allow meat to brown.

Then add 6 ounces of tomato paste (the entire can). Combine.

Add your turkey broth. Feel free to use chicken, beef or vegetable broth depending on your preference.

Add the green chile...

Throw in the rinsed black beans.

Now throw in the bay leaves, caraway seeds, and marjoram.

Chop up some carrots. I halved mine first then sliced them.

Chop up some celery.

Quarter your cherry tomatoes. Stir well and cook cover on low heat for the next few hours. Your apartment should start to smell quite heavenly. Enjoy!

Turkey Chili! It's so hearty and healthy. :)
